Does Your Parent Have Dementia And You Do Not Want Them In A Nursing Home? Use Home Health Care Instead

Blog

Right now, COVID-19 is spreading, and many nursing homes are dealing with this problem. Because of this, you may not want to put your parent that has dementia into a nursing home. Instead of this, you should consider home health care. Below is information on what services they can provide to your parent and the benefits of you choosing to do this.

Home Health Care Services

You first must speak to your parent's doctor, who then has to refer your parent for home health care. Once this happens, a home health care professional will come to your parent's home to speak to them and you about the services they can offer. Most home health care services are the same, but you should ask the home health care professional that comes to your home about the services they offer.

One service may include assisting your parent, such as assisting them with dressing, if needed. If your parent is in the later stages of dementia, they will need all personal care from going to the bathroom to showering.  If your parent cannot eat whole foods, the home health care professional may suggest foods for them to eat and puree foods that would be much easier for them to eat.

The home care professional can make sure your parent takes their medication and that their prescriptions are always filled on time. They assist with homemaking tasks, such as laundry and other household chores. If your parent has any type of wound, the home health care professional can offer wound care assistance, as well as offer pain management.

Benefits of Home Health Care

The main benefit of choosing home health care is it will help keep your parent safe from COVID-19. Also, having dementia is confusing, and if your parent has to move out of their home and into a nursing home, this can be traumatic for them. Being able to stay in their home setting will make them much more comfortable.

Home health care also gives you a break, especially if you are your parent's main caregiver. You can have time for yourself to do what you want, which will help ease a lot of your stress. Home health care can also save you money because the costs of nursing homes are very expensive and home health care will cost much less.

Creating Solid Home Health Care

After thinking about various ways to improve my home, I decided that it would be awesome to make my place suitable to care for relatives who were having a hard time with their health. I started talking with my mother's nurses and doctors about how they could live with me, and within a few days, I had made some powerful changes that really improved my home. For instance, I installed a safety bar in the bathroom and anti-slip rugs throughout my home. I wanted to start a great new website that centered around creating a solid home health care plan.
