In-Home Nursing Services

Blog

Getting around the house comfortably is not always easy to do alone. Struggling to do basic tasks alone is common after an extended illness or an accident. Family members may not always be around to provide help on a regular basis. Adult children may live and work in a different city or their work schedule may not be flexible. Supportive friends often check in by phone or stop by, but they are not able to assist with medical issues. Here are a few tips for scheduling in-home nursing services.

The first step in obtaining in-home nursing is to see what the budget will allow. Households with flexible budgets and no insurance can simply pay the cash price. Reach out to the nursing agency and provide all insurance information. The agency will be able to provide a quote for services both with and without insurance. Work with the agency to see what payment plans are available.

Inquire about the range of support services that are available in-home. The current state of health will determine how much treatment insurance plans will cover. Many insurance plans will cover multiple weekly in-home visits. If a prior authorization is required from the health plan, the nursing office will start the paperwork. The health insurance company may reach out to a specialist or primary care doctor for more information regarding the request.

Registered Nurse Visits

In-home nursing services are often suggested by the provider for physical therapy, speech therapy, or wound care. Reading through the insurance company's explanation of coverage is another way to receive details on which in-home nursing services are covered.

Household Assistance

Some families may need more support for services where a registered nurse is not required. Insurance may cover a certain number of hours for help with preparing meals, light household chores, and running errands. Help getting dressed, taking a shower, and performing other personal tasks can take the pressure off a spouse or another loved one. Many loved ones are simply not able to physically offer support.

Loved ones who know that someone is coming to assist them will be less likely to perform certain duties alone. Assistance taking medication is extremely helpful for patients who simply are not able to manage on their own. Reaching out to the in-home nursing services is the best way to confirm available services both with and without insurance. Use these tips when hiring help for a loved one with in-home nursing services.

Creating Solid Home Health Care

After thinking about various ways to improve my home, I decided that it would be awesome to make my place suitable to care for relatives who were having a hard time with their health. I started talking with my mother's nurses and doctors about how they could live with me, and within a few days, I had made some powerful changes that really improved my home. For instance, I installed a safety bar in the bathroom and anti-slip rugs throughout my home. I wanted to start a great new website that centered around creating a solid home health care plan.
