2 Ways That Home Health Care Workers Can Help You With Your Aging Loved Ones

Blog

As your parents or grandparents age,  they may get to a point where they can't live alone at home anymore, but they don't need to be put into residential care yet. That may mean that you have them live with you. That might mean that you need to have some help to take care of your parent or grandparent. There may be problems with trying to take care of the rest of your family and work and have a personal life while you are also being a caretaker to your loved one. There are things that you can do that will help you take care of your loved one. One of them is to work with a home health care agency. There are a lot of things they can do for you and your family.

Med Management

One thing that home health care workers can help you and your loved one with managing their medications. The worker can help by sorting out medications into pill boxes so that all that has to happen is that your loved one opens up the appropriate compartment in the pillbox and takes their medication. The home health care worker can come in weekly and do this. The worker will also be able to help any deleterious effects that the medications may be having on your parent or grandparent, help keep track of their med compliance, and help with making sure that all the meds are filled when necessary.

Daily Care Activities

These can be things like taking a shower and getting dressed. As your parent or grandparent ages, their balance may be affected, making it harder for them to do things like step over the side of the bathtub without feeling shaky and like they might fall. The home health care worker can support them and help get your loved one in and out of the shower safely. The worker can also show you things that you can do to help your loved one to safely get in and out of the shower. The worker may also be able to give you suggestions on various aides that you can get that will help your loved one be safer in the shower and to get dressed easier, like longer shoe horns that can help your loved one slide their shoes on without having to bend over.

Aging is a normal part of life. Of course, that doesn't mean that anyone is going to enjoy it. It also means that your parent or grandparent may need help at certain parts of their life. Home senior care workers can help you with that.

Creating Solid Home Health Care

After thinking about various ways to improve my home, I decided that it would be awesome to make my place suitable to care for relatives who were having a hard time with their health. I started talking with my mother's nurses and doctors about how they could live with me, and within a few days, I had made some powerful changes that really improved my home. For instance, I installed a safety bar in the bathroom and anti-slip rugs throughout my home. I wanted to start a great new website that centered around creating a solid home health care plan.
