2 Ways That Home Health Care Can Help You

Blog

When you have had surgery and are ready to come home, you probably aren't completely healed. Insurance generally won't let you stay in the hospital that long. You get to stay in the hospital as long as it takes for you to get healthy enough to be released, either to home or to a further care center. So, there's a good chance that you need to have some continuing medical care when you get home, depending on what your surgery was for. If you have gone home, but you need to still have some care, one option for you is to go with home health care. What can home health care do for you?

1. Wound Care

One thing that a home health care agency can do for you is to help with wound care. Incisions and other wounds need to be kept clean while they heal. It's not necessarily as easy as just sticking some band-aids on your incision or wound to make sure that it's covered and clean. For example, you may have a wound that is similar to a pressure ulcer. Pressure ulcers are caused because some hard part of your body wears away the soft tissue over it because there is nearly constant pressure on that area. That means that the part nearest the bone is going to be the biggest part.

Even if you have surgery to take care of that ulcer, they won't completely close it up because it will still need to heal correctly. Wounds heal from the outside in, which means that the pressure ulcer will still have problems on the inside because it didn't heal correctly. They need to have special dressings and treatment in order to heal correctly, and having a medical professional from a home health care come in and change the dressing daily will make sure that it's done correctly, the wound heals as it should, and no infection is setting in.

2. Daily Living Skills

You may not need to have wound care or med management, but you may need to have help with daily living skills. That can include things like cooking, grocery shopping, taking showers, and dressing. Not all employees of home health care agencies are nurses; they also hire CNAs and workers who can come in and help you shower or help you with cooking or grocery shopping.

Home health care can do a lot of things to help you when you have come home after surgery.

Creating Solid Home Health Care

After thinking about various ways to improve my home, I decided that it would be awesome to make my place suitable to care for relatives who were having a hard time with their health. I started talking with my mother's nurses and doctors about how they could live with me, and within a few days, I had made some powerful changes that really improved my home. For instance, I installed a safety bar in the bathroom and anti-slip rugs throughout my home. I wanted to start a great new website that centered around creating a solid home health care plan.
